NSW public schools offer special religious education and special education in ethics, delivered by approved providers wherever available.
During enrolment, you can choose a special religious education option for your child from the school’s available approved providers. You can withdraw your child from special religious education by selecting alternative meaningful activities, or special education in ethics if it’s available.
You can update your preference by writing to the school or through the online form available at participating schools.
Visit the department’s website for more information about religion and ethics.
SRE Information:
Combined Christian SRE (scripture) classes are taught by trained and authorised volunteers from different Christian denominations and churches.
In the Coffs Harbour region SRE volunteers are authorised and cross-authorised by Anchor Church Coffs Harbour, Anglican Diocese of Grafton, Australian Christian Churches, Baptist Union of NSW, Christian Community Churches of Australia, Christian Outreach Centre, churches of Christ in NSW, Wesleyan Methodist Church of Australia, Presbyterian Church of Australia (NSW), Seventh-Day Adventist Church North NSW Conference, The Church of the Foursquare Gospel Australia and Uniting Church in Australia (NSW Synod)
With trained SRE teachers from local churches, students ask questions, explore the Bible and discover the Good News of Jesus Christ and what it means to be a Christian in our world today.
Lessons are age appropriate, fun and inclusive.
Research has shown that SRE contributes to students’ wholistic education as it nurtures their spiritual wellbeing.
The curriculum used is GodSpace, authorised by the Baptist Union of NSW. The curriculum can be found at:

Alternative Meaningful Activities
If parents decide that their child will not participate in either SRE or SEE, students can also engage in alternative meaningful activities. At our school, this involves those students remaining in the care of a Narranga teacher and completing activities such as reading, homework completion, artwork, structured play or similar.
